Insights into the Data Science & Management Bachelor's
„What I value most about the DBU is the close-knit atmosphere on campus and how hands-on the program is. From day one, you learn skills you can put to use — Python, data analysis, and how to turn data into real business decisions. The lecturers know the field, and the small cohort means every question gets answered.”
„The mix of business and tech really works. One week we’re modelling data in Python, the next we’re discussing how to bring those insights into a real organisation. The community on our Berlin-Kreuzberg campus makes it feel like a second home — and the program prepared me directly for working in data.”

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Your Bachelor’s program in Data Science & Management — 28 modules and a bachelor’s thesis on your way to graduation.
Introduction to Data Science & Management and Academic Work
In your first module you’ll cover the basics of data science and business analytics — what they have in common, where they differ — and learn the foundations of academic work: sources, citations, structuring your thinking, and presenting research clearly.
Applied Data Science I: Introduction to Python and Pandas
Get to know how data science projects are structured and take your first steps in programming. You’ll learn the relevant tooling — Python, Pandas — and start applying it to real data.
Applied Mathematics and Statistics
Build the foundation for working with data: probability, linear algebra, calculus, descriptive statistics — the math you actually need to understand modern data science.
Business English
Communicate confidently in business — in English. Practise presentations, negotiations, written communication, and the vocabulary you’ll use in a digital workplace.
Business Information Systems I: IT Fundamentals
Understand the foundations of processing and handling data: how IT systems work, data structures, networks, and the technologies that underpin every digital business.
Advanced Methods in Applied Statistics
Inductive statistics: probability theory, hypothesis testing, and statistical inference. You’ll learn how to draw valid conclusions from data and avoid common pitfalls.
Communication, Presentation & Visualization with Digital Media
Build digital communication skills — how to present, visualize and tell stories with data so that stakeholders actually understand and act on it.
Applied Data Science II: Data Preparation & Management
Work with structured and semi-structured data (SQL, JSON, XML), prepare datasets for analysis, and learn the data management practices used in production environments.
Business Information Systems II: Business Intelligence
Data warehouses, ELT processes, OLAP techniques, dashboard design and reporting — the BI stack from data sources to decisions.
Self-Management in Digital Work Environments
Strategies for self-management, resilience, time management and working effectively in a digital, fast-moving environment.
Leadership & HR Management
Explore the responsibilities and instruments of HR management — recruiting, development, leadership styles, organisational culture — and how they shape modern data-driven companies.
Digital Marketing Essentials
Fundamentals of digital marketing, marketing instruments, online channels, customer journeys, and the data analytics behind every marketing decision.
Applied Data Science III: Tools of Software Development
Learn the tools developers use day to day to deliver technical solutions: Git & GitHub, IDEs, testing, code review, and collaborative development workflows.
Legal and Ethical Foundations
Cover the legal foundations of data work (data protection, IP, contracts) and the ethical considerations that come with building and deploying data-driven systems.
Data Analytics
Data is the new gold — in this module you’ll learn how to extract value from it: exploratory analysis, deriving insights, and translating them into business recommendations.
Design, Optimization & Digitization of Business Processes
Focus on organising and steering operational processes: process modelling, optimisation, automation, and the digital tools that drive transformation.
Applied Data Science IV: Machine Learning
Learn the key Python packages used for machine learning — from scikit-learn to modern deep-learning frameworks — and apply them to real prediction and classification problems.
Specialisation Module 1
Dive into one of our specialisation tracks (e.g. Generative AI, Trustworthy AI, Data Engineering). You’ll choose your specialisation modules from our growing catalogue.

Continue with a second specialisation module — go deeper or broaden your profile in another area of applied data science.
Project Management, Agile Methods & Effective Teamwork
Learn the theory and practice of project management — from classical to agile (Scrum, Kanban) — and how to make teams work well together on real projects.
Applied Data Science V: Visualisation & Communication
Master the essential tools for communicating and visualising data — dashboard design, narrative reporting, modern visualisation libraries — to make insights land with decision-makers.
Financial Accounting and Cost & Performance Accounting
Understand the structure, core functions and tasks of financial accounting — including cost and performance accounting — to read company numbers fluently.
Specialisation Module 3
Round out your specialisation profile with a third module — combine technical depth with the focus area most relevant to your career path.
Elective Module I
Each year we offer a rotating selection of electives — pick the topics that broaden your perspective and complement your specialisation.

Admission & Recognition
Here’s what you need:
Studying with a university entrance qualification
You hold a recognised university entrance qualification — German general or subject-specific Abitur, an international equivalent, or a comparable certificate. That’s everything you need to enrol with us.
Studying without a traditional university entrance qualification
You’ve completed vocational training and gained relevant work experience? Then you qualify as a vocationally qualified applicant and can apply directly to a Bachelor’s program at the DBU.
Credit transfer & recognition of prior learning
Already studied somewhere else and want to continue? Or do you bring relevant work experience? No problem — we’ll review your prior learning and, where possible, credit it toward your degree at the DBU.
Tuition & financing
At the DBU you study full-time in English on our Berlin-Kreuzberg campus. The total tuition for the Bachelor’s in Data Science & Management is €22,670, paid in three installments across your studies — plus a one-time registration fee of €150 and an examination fee of €500. If your studies take a little longer than planned, you can extend at no extra cost.
Get started: your first installment covers the launch of your Bachelor’s program.
Halfway in: your second installment unlocks the next stage of your degree.
Final stretch: your third installment carries you through to your bachelor’s thesis.
Free extension if you need more time
Life happens. If your studies take longer than the standard 36 months, you can continue without paying extra tuition. On top of the three installments, you pay a one-time registration fee of €150 at enrolment and an examination fee of €500 before your bachelor’s thesis — that’s everything.
Frequently asked questions about studying at the DBU
What happens after I apply?
After you fill in our form, we’ll get back to you by email and let you know which documents we still need from you. These documents typically include:
- Your university entrance qualification (or equivalent foreign certificate) — and your Bachelor’s certificate if you’re applying for a Master’s
- If applicable: transcripts of records, work certificates, or other evidence of prior learning
- If applicable: language certificates

You submit these, we check them carefully and confirm whether all admission requirements are met. Then you’ll receive your study contract. Sign and return it — and you’re officially enrolled, ready to start at your chosen intake.
Do I have to be on campus?
Yes — at the DBU you study in person on our Berlin-Kreuzberg campus. International students relocate to Berlin to attend classes, work on projects together with classmates, and make use of the campus library, study spaces and networking events.
Can I study without a traditional university entrance qualification?
